Choice Privileges – 30% Discount On Purchased Points

Choice Privileges – 30% Discount On Purchased Points

Until April 19, 2018, Choice Privileges is offering up to a 30% discount on the purchase of points.

The promotion is tiered, with a bigger bonus the more points you buy:

  1. 30% off when you buy 40,000-50,000 points
  2. 25% off when you buy 30,000-39,000 points
  3. 15% off when you buy 15,000-29,000 points
  4. 10% off when you buy 5,000-14,000 points

If you take advantage of this promotion, points should post to your account within 24 hours, and you can buy at most 50,000 points per account per calendar year.

I’m seeing a further discount on top of this, and I’m not sure why. When I log into my Choice Privileges account and try to buy 50,000 points, I get a cost of $346.50, which is 0.693 cents per point. The normal price for 50,000 points should be $550 rather than $495, so I’m not sure why I’m seeing a 10% discount on top of that. If you were to buy 50,000 points for $385, that would be 0.77 cents per point. Therefore, you’ll have to check your own account to see which offer you’re eligible for.

Travis has redeemed at hotels such as Clarion Collection Hotel Bastion & the Clarion Collection Hotel Folketeateret, which cost 16,000 points per night. If you bought the points for those stays through this promotion for 0.69 cents each, it would be the equivalent of paying $110 per night, which is a good deal.

If you don’t have status you can only book at most 30 days out for US & Canada properties, and 60 days out for other properties. This promotion isn’t for everyone, but it’s certainly a nice program that will have value for some.

Choice Privileges points purchases are processed by, that means they don’t count as airfare spend for the purposes of your credit card.

If you buy miles you’ll want to first use a card where you’re meeting minimum spend, and then use a card which maximizes your return on everyday, non-bonused spend,  such as Citi® Double Cash Card, the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and so on.
